We need your help: Heritage Designation for 66 Main Street Schomberg (Margaret Coburn Home)

Dec 10, 2017
Great news! (But not over yet – we need your help):

King Township Staff is recommending a heritage designation for Margaret Coburn’s home at 66 Main. It will be considered and voted on by Council at Monday’s December 11th) Council meeting.

This follows the unanimous request by our Heritage Advisory Committee (HAC) to request Council to designate this very noteworthy home in the core of historical Schomberg.  CCKT is on record in our support of this designation.

Click here to read the report at the link provided by Councillor Debbie Schaefer (King City) and her analysis of the report. Councillor Schaefer is our Council representative on the HAC.

We urge you to attend Monday’s Council meeting to support this “Notice of Intention to Designate” motion put forth by Debbie. Why?

– It is completely a Council decision whether to proceed with the process to designate this home.

– The process calls for a 30-day waiting period for APPEALS by anyone to be submitted and heard by the Provincial Conservation Review Board. The Board hears any appeals and makes a recommendation for Council to consider.

– It is once again a COUNCIL DECISION whether to finalize the heritage designation. And their decision is FINAL (no appeal under the Heritage Act and the Ontario Municipal Board does not come into play here).
It is critical that Council appreciate our community’s strong desire to see this home saved from being demolished to accommodate an intensification development application that has recently been appealed to the OMB.
PLEASE ATTEND MONDAY’s Council Meeting to show your support. If you can’t attend, let your Councillor and Mayor know directly what your opinion is on saving this historic landmark.

Thank you!
