Save the Moraine and the Greenbelt – Stop Bill 66

Jan 12, 2019

On January 12th several CCKT members travelled to Ajax to participate in a Bill 66 Info. Workshop and to participate in a peaceful protest rally in front of the office of MMP Rod Phillips, Minister of Environment.

The Ontario government’s Bill 66 puts drinking water, the Oak Ridges Moraine, and the entire Greenbelt at risk. Bill 66 undermines and opens up several provincial acts including the Clean Water Protection Act and the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan. 70% of King Township is on the Moraine.

Each municipality may “opt in” or “opt out” of passing an “Open-for-Business By-law” that could lead to new employment development on protected Greenbelt or Moraine lands. Bill 66 states that no public consultation is required and no public notice is required before the by-law is passed.

King Township Council will be talking about Bill 66 on Monday, January 14th at 6:00 pm, and receiving public comments. Come to the Council Meeting on January 14th to show your support for the Moraine and the Greenbelt. Keep King green, and maintain sound, progressive planning in Ontario.
